Program Description

The GCI, Inc. is deeply invested in the use of performance poetry as a means for increasing basic and advanced academic skills, self empowerment, positive social change, and community engagement.   The GCI, Inc. hosts performance poetry competitions, community events, and performance assemblies/workshops.  The GCI, Inc. has partnerships with the world’s best performance poets and regularly hires these groups and individuals to perform at GCI, Inc. events.

Program Goals

The goals of Greenhouse Poetry are to increase academic achievement and basic skills, increase positive mentoring for personal development, teach civic engagement skills and education, increase participant and community awareness of critical social and political issues, increase cultural competence, increase social justice education, support community building, and facilitate community action and community based education.
